News & Events Green Thumbs Up! Oakham Shires School Gardening Club win first place
Congratulations to the Gardening Club at Oakham Shires School for receiving first place in the Schools Horticulture Competition at the 190th Rutland County Show.
The brief for the competition was to create a garden display in a car tyre. The pupils had to plan their garden and nurture their plants before taking them to the showground and assembling them ahead of the show weekend. Based on a William Morris theme, they planned and then planted a repeating pattern of plants with a lupin as the central focal point.
Claire Bloor, Gardening Club Lead, said βIt was an amazing experience to be able to take part in, the pupils have thoroughly enjoyed planning and planting and we were delighted to win.β
Well done to everyone involved.
